LET'S GET STARTED

Say 'Aloha!' To Oaxaca's Best Cocktails.

Aloha Oaxaca is a Tiki-themed cocktail bar in the south of Mexico. It's popular with both locals and expats, but sometimes for the wrong reasons. That's because despite making their highest margins off premium cocktail sales, Aloha Oaxaca has become known as more of a beer bar. Here are some of the other issues the bar faced:

That's Pretty Dark, Man

Aloha's soft, multi-colored lights made for a great place to sip cocktails, but a bad place to read menus.

Out of Site, Out of Mind

Aloha's website was doing very little in the way of helping the restaurant gain traffic, digital or otherwise.

Stiff Drinks, Stiffer Competition

Located a bit outside the city-center, Oaxaca needed help to attract customers to its weekly events.

THE MISSION:

Develop a website and digital menu that highlights the unique history of tiki cocktail culture, while also providing functional elements that drive customers to the bar's weekly events and social media channels.

Incoorporating Existing Design Elements

Aloha has a great atmosphere and many well-defined brand elements. These included fonts, a bright color palette and photography. Seeing these elements as well-positioned to showcase the bar's fun and tropical inspired identity, I began the process of crafting a digital menu for their website.

Considering The User Experience

As I approached this project, I wanted to focus on the mobile experience as I expected this would be the most likely use-case. For this reason the website places absolute prominence on the menu. Customers in the restaurant would be linked directly to the menu, and have easy access from any point in the website.

Elements that held the potential to generate greater customer retention were granted 'fixed' positioning on the screen, Meaning that they did not move regardless of scroll position or page.

I felt that it was important to include pictures of cocktails throughout the menu, as studies have shown has this has tremendous potential to boost sales. As the bar is located in Mexico, the ability for users to choose between Spanish and English was also important. A language toggle was placed on the to menu, so customers could easily switch between languages at any point on the site.

Through a consultation with the bars owner it was determined that adding a Tiki stories page would further strengthen the bar's cocktail-centered identity. This would provide customers with relevant reading material as they awaiting their cocktail, while further adding the media potential of the menu.

Results

This is an ongoing project, and we are currently in the process of gathering the data to precisely show how effective the campaign has been. However, employees and customers have both expressed excitement of the project, and we anticipate positive changed to unfold over the coming weeks and months.
